Time served Engineer at Llanelec, Spencer spent some time out of the business playing professional rugby union for Llanelli Scarlets, Cardiff Blues and Wales.

Spencer gained 18 caps for his country and is the second youngest prop forward to be play for his country but had to retire at the young age of 28 through injury.

After returning to Llanelec, Spencer was appointed Director in 2017. In January 2020 Spencer was then appointed MD; he is now firmly driving Llanelec into the future.

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), having graduated from University of Wales, Cardiff, Matt has held executive positions in finance, strategy and corporate development across multiple sectors.

Matt began his career at Airbus Group, before moving on to Lloyds Banking Group and DCC. In the more recent phase of Matt’s career, he has developed extensive experience working with private equity, as well as family and founder-led businesses.

Gethin completed an HNC in computer aided manufacture while completing a 4 Year Apprenticeship in Toolmaking at Turnmil Engineering. Gethin was a Machine Shop Supervisor for a further 3 years at Mono Equipment.

Further development has seen Gethin gain valuable knowledge and experience of various CAD/CAM packages and multi-axis Turn/Mill Machining.

Gethin worked at C R Hollands as a technical sales engineer manager supplying and supporting engineering companies in South Wales with cutting tools and their programming/process needs.

It was during this period he worked on numerous projects with Llanelec for the Ministry of Defence, the technical ability displayed demonstrated that Gethin was going to be a major asset. After 12 Months of supporting each other Gethin was offered a position to further develop his career within the engineering world.

Paul Steel began his career as an Army officer, completing officer training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before serving as an infantry officer on operations in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds a BA in Financial Services from Sheffield Hallam University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Battlespace Technology from Cranfield University, and an MBA from Henley Business School, alongside multiple programme and project management qualifications.

Paul brings extensive experience gained across the global defence sector, having worked for major defence primes including Lockheed Martin, Leonardo, and Saab in increasingly senior roles, including as Business Unit VP with Leonardo. He has led large-scale business units across the full defence landscape and directed cross-functional, multinational teams in the delivery of critical defence programmes. Most recently, as Chief Delivery Officer at a software SME, Paul was a member of the executive leadership team with responsibility for global operations, and led complex, large-scale sales campaigns that drove expansion into new markets and countries.

Paul joins Llanelec as Chief Commercial Officer, bringing with him a wealth of experience from across the defence industry. His track record in commercial leadership, market expansion, and complex programme delivery will be instrumental in supporting Llanelec’s future growth.
